NEWS EMC and Compaq have signed an agreement to cross license each other's technology. The application programming interface (API) agreement allows the two storage behemoths to deliver and manage each other's technology and to make sure all devices are fully interoperable. The API allows EMC and Compaq to swap access functions on similar devices, such as EMC's Symmetrix disk array with Compaq's HSG-80 Fiber Channel array controller. The deal is a first sign of EMC's commitment to work more closely with rival vendors, a decision the company announced at the end of last month. The two companies have been negotiating the deal for nearly two months, according to EMC.
