NEWS US users of Microsoft software who claim they were overcharged as a result of the high-tech giant's anti-competitive practices will today challenge efforts to reach a nationwide settlement. Under the settlement proposed earlier this year Microsoft will pay $500,000 in cash and make donations of free software totalling an extra $1bn to schools in low-income areas. According to lawyers pursuing dozens of private lawsuits, however, consumers should be able to claim up to $9.3bn from Microsoft.
