NEWS The city of Turku in Finland is considering moving to Linux across the town's administrative offices during the next year. Finland's third largest city published an investigative report this morning, which detailed the city's IT spending. The report concluded the MS Office product family is too pricey for Turku's IT budget and the open source software would provide a cheaper alternative. The report concluded that the problems facing the end uses are "marginal" and something the council can overcome very quickly. The move is seen as part of the Finnish government's nationwide initiative to move the public sector into using Linux operating system because of the cost involved with NT-based platform.
