NEWS Red Hat has ported an updated version of its Linux operating system for Compaq's Alpha platform. Alpha, the chip architecture Compaq inherited when it bought Digital in 1998, is still a popular 64-bit Unix platform in many businesses. Compaq said it worked with Red Hat on the release as part of its aim to couple its Alpha-based servers with leading software. The port should be available to end users before the end of March.
