NEWS Microsoft founder Bill Gates and current CEO Steve Ballmer are being lined up for a day in court as the company seeks to limit the damage in its ongoing antitrust trial. The move is seen as a major change of tactics. When Microsoft and the nine states that are continuing their fight against the company exchanged witness lists late on Friday night, it emerged that both Gates' and Ballmer's names were on it. The remedies trial is due to begin on 11 March and once concluded Microsoft will learn what sanctions it faces. During the trial itself Gates refused to take the stand. He was only seen in court when excerpts of a videotaped deposition were screened. Commentators criticised his performance and accused the Microsoft founder of being evasive. They also criticised the company for packing the witness box with its own officials.
