NEWS Sun is to rebrand several major product lines as part of its Sun ONE initiative as it battles for web services supremacy over Microsoft's .Net. The move is aimed at streamlining Sun's marketing, and will bolster the perception of its web services offering. Products due for consolidation under the Sun ONE brand include the iPlanet, StarOffice, Chili!Soft and Forte ranges. The move will build on Sun ONE's existing Java-based architecture, adding the full range of iPlanet servers, the Forte Java development suite, StarOffice word processing applications and the Chili!Soft ASP service. Sun said it will continue to provide multi-platform support across Solaris, Linux, Windows, AIX and HP-UP operating systems for all the rebranded lines. In a statement, the company said: "Branding all of the products under the Sun ONE name will result in a singular focus that simplifies Sun's software portfolio for customers." Sun kick-starts a global marking campaign this week to highlight the change.
