NEWS Microsoft claims to have licensed 60 million copies of Office XP since sales began almost a year ago. This almost doubles the amount of licenses of Office 2000 sold over a similar period. However, David Rippon chairman of IT mangers group Elite, said: "I'm very surprised Office XP has sold 60 million because Office is not bundled with PC sales. Who has bought it is the question. Those that use Office should still be using their old versions which are just as good." Microsoft announced that Office XP sales in the Asia-Pacific region including Japan have hit the 12 million mark, but the company refused to break down sales figures for Europe and the US. Microsoft claims the sales show business believes it does improve productivity and offer business value. BT Ignite, NHS Information Services and Orange are all Office XP customers.
