Forget NT. Forget NetWare. Forget Linux

And luxuriate in the memory of Banyan Vines...

By Jon Bernstein, 28 August 2002 13:20

NEWS silicon.com reader and 'old skool' technology nut David Milne is launching a site in honour of the biggest operating system that never was: Banyan Vines. In the early 1990s Vines went head-to-head with Novell Netware and Microsoft LAN Manager (the precursor to Windows NT Server). Unfortunately, the might of Microsoft and the loyalty of NetWare users meant Vines disappeared from the scene. But not from the mind of Mr Milne. He promises that his site "will eventually become a shrine to one of the finest network operating systems that never quite made it into the big time". All memories and contributions should be directed to David via the website http://www.banyan-vines.com/Banyan.htm.
