HP turns to Mobsters for help

Bada Bing!...

NEWS Hewlett Packard has hired the cast of US gangster drama The Sopranos to host a drinks reception at this week's LinuxWorld Expo in New York. HP boss Carly Fiorina has often been likened to the matriarch of the dysfunctional family, Carmella Soprano, and now fans of the show, and followers of HP, may be about to get the rare opportunity of seeing the two of them in the same room - a feat some may have previously thought impossible. (Click here www.silicon.com/a57126 for more on what to expect from LinuxWorld.) The move also follows a growing trend by computing firms to try to shake off their 'boring' tag and become more 'with it'. While Apple has often exuded an effortless cool, other companies have been forced to throw money at the situation. Microsoft went with Madonna and Sting (very 'with it' we're sure you'll agree) for the launch of Windows XP, while Intel favoured New York techno wizard Moby.
