Bamboo is a more environmentally friendly alternative to metal or plastic as it is a sustainable and renewable resource, while also being resilient enough to stand up to day to day use, according to Asus. But the green credentials of the laptop go beyond its bamboo panelled lid (pictured) and keyboard plate, as the company said a green ethos has informed the whole design and manufacture process - from ensuring maximum energy efficiency to minimising the number of toxic chemicals used in the manufacture process.

Asus has made a public commitment to create "greener computers and other information technology equipment", saying it has put a series of green policies and standards that all its manufacturing and product design processes aim to meet.
