NEWS British Nuclear Group is spending £74m over the next five years on an outsourcing deal with Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) to support 12,000 users across the UK.

Under the deal CSC will manage and support the company's IT operations including help desk and desktop services, applications support, networks, midrange computing, telecoms and security.

British Nuclear Group provides nuclear site management, decommissioning and clean-up services, and is part of British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL).

CSC said the new agreement supercedes a previous five-year outsourcing contract awarded to CSC by BNFL in 2000.

In addition to managing ongoing IT services, CSC is also working with British Nuclear Group on a business change programme. When this is completed later this year, it will deliver a new, integrated suite of project and financial control processes and systems.

Brian Tenner, finance director of British Nuclear Group, said in a statement: "The increased functionality and simplified business processes resulting from the business change project will deliver significant benefit to the business, and provide a robust IT platform in support of our future strategy."
