NEWS Micron Technology is set to buy Rendition - a manufacturer of graphics accelerators for PCs - in an all-stock deal worth just under $90m (£54m). The acquisition represents the latest chapter in Micron's efforts to turn around its business. The Idaho-based company has struggled in recent quarters as memory chip prices have remained low. The company recently purchased Texas Instruments' Dram (Dynamic Random Access Memory) for $800m (£480m), and appointed Joel Kocher as CEO of its Micron Electronics subsidiary. The Rendition purchase will give Micron control over the architecture, design and manufacturing of graphics accelerators, but according to industry watchers the company will face strong competition. In addition to established players, Intel is also making an assault on the market.
