NEWS NEC has opened its first semiconductor production technology R&D centre. The company is putting £840m into the Tokyo-based site over the next ten years. The centre will develop process technologies ranging from 0.18microns to 0.07microns - technology that would dramatically reduce the physical size of the computer. The 0.07micron process development is expected to begin in 2003.
