Lexmark package keeps track of printer users

NEWS Lexmark is aiming to reduce printing costs with the release of MarkTrack. The software package manages printing costs within departments, and has the ability to collect, store and analyse network printer information by user, department or printer. Jamie Snowden, analyst at Input, sees this as a "great concept". He explained that some document management systems already have a similar structure incorporated along with many other programs. "Companies such as accounting firms need to know details for charging purposes, and they may find this very useful," he said. MarkTrack is also capable of creating financial and administrative reports from a Web browser, and catalogues information for all SNMP-compliant printers including models from HP, IBM and Xerox.
