In brief: Siemens takes aim at mobile market

NEWS German electronics group, Siemens is reported to be forming a mobile telephone initiative with Motorola. German newspaper, Welt am Sonntag claims the move would enable Siemens to reduce development costs and increase output. Last week Der Spiegel magazine reported that Sony was considering pulling its support for Siemens in favour of building its own mobile phones. To date, Sony had relied on Siemens for help in designing the phones but now the Japanese manufacturer is building its own development centre in Germany.
