In brief: IDC claims remote access boom

NEWS Almost 40 per cent of employees will be accessing company LANs remotely by 1999, according to an IDC report. The figure is up from 32 per cent this year and nearly 28 per cent in 1997. IDC says that corporate intranets make remote working more supportable. Companies with a high percentage of remote workers are looking to increase LAN bandwidth and provide more WAN equipment and remote access management. Applications with Web interfaces for remote users are also on the priority list for companies with large remote workforces.
