NEWS Mitsubishi Electric Corp has become the second US chipmaker in a week to close a fabrication plant. The factory in Durham, North Carolina made 16MB and 32MB memory chips and employed 230 people. On Tuesday Hitachi shut its plant in Irving Texas at the cost of 500 jobs. Both companies blamed the market glut in chips and the resulting pressure on prices.
