NEWS IBM is launching a 1in disk drive for the growing handheld market. The drive is designed to fit in the same flash memory slot that is standard in digital cameras. It will hold 340MB of data. The device is called a Microdrive and will ship in mid-1999. Observers see the move as a boost to disk drives which have been under threat from flash memory chips.
