NEWS Executives at the National Semiconductor chip plant in Greenock, Scotland are reported to be considering a management buyout of the facility. The plant hit the headlines recently over cutbacks of 700 workers and as the subject of research into hazardous working practices. The management syndicate plans to raise the financing for the plant, which still has a 440-strong workforce. It has been assured of £17m per year over the next three years by National Semiconductor, in the form of orders and technical support.
