Users warned that monitors matter

NEWS Findings from the latest Computing Suppliers Federation (CSF) report show that PCs are not fulfilling their potential because monitors are not being used properly. The ongoing report, called Monitors Matter, is being conducted at the centre for Human Computer Interface at City University, London, and lists the incorrect use of monitors as one of the areas were PC productivity fails. Bill Boffin, platforms and peripherals forum co-ordinator at CSF, explained that a user on a 14in screen has to scroll and pan naturally to see the same amount that a user with a 21in screen can see all at once. He added: "Under test conditions, extra screen space was considerably more productive and efficient." Users were set tasks with results showing that the larger the monitor used the easier it was for the user to find what was needed.
