UK mobile users offered number portability

NEWS Number portability has become a reality for mobile phone users in the UK. The UK's four mobile phone network operators - Cellnet, One2One, Orange and Vodafone - will now let customers take their numbers with them when they change network operators. A spokesman for UK telecoms watchdog, Oftel said: "In the past, having to get a new number has put off customers from shopping around for the best deal." According to Oftel, the network operators are still expected to charge one-off fees of up to £25 for accepting transferred numbers.
