Dell notebook aims low

NEWS Dell has launched a low-cost notebook PC to attract Europe's government and education sectors. The Dell Latitude CPT is priced at £1,265, but includes many features from higher-priced Latitude machines, such as compliant docking features, DVD and a second hard drive. The drawback is that the units are based on the Intel Celeron processor rather than the Pentium II. Dell notebook product manager, Murray McKerlie, said this makes for slightly slower performance and a shorter lifecycle, but claimed: "Although the Celeron-based technology has a shorter lifecycle, it is still sufficient, since Dell hardware often has a longer lifecycle than average."
