NEWS IBM and Oracle have announced their latest ventures into the mobile database market. IBM unveiled two additions to its DB2 range of databases. DB2 Universal Database Satellite Edition is aimed at notebooks running Microsoft Windows, while DB2 Everywhere targets handheld devices running the Windows CE or PalmOS operating systems. Both databases are currently in beta testing and are scheduled for release later this year. Meanwhile, Oracle has announced a June release for Oracle8i Lite, a mobile version of its Internet-based database. Oracle will also ship versions of the product for Linux-based notebooks, embedded platforms and wireless "information appliances".
