Isle of Man venue for BT showcase

NEWS BT has announced plans to create an "electronic showcase" for third generation mobile phone technology on the Isle of Man. In a press briefing presenting its European strategies, BT confirmed that it had won an exclusive government license to provide UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) mobile technology from early next year. BT says it will use the contract as a chance to test and showcase its technologies before the UMTS market takes off in around 2002. BT refused to comment on the size of the investment.
