NEWS Ten European airlines are discussing plans to launch an independent Web-based travel agency, according to a report in today's Financial Times. The group, which includes KLM, Lufthansa and Swissair, are following the lead of American airline consortiums that see online travel projects as a way to challenge rivals and cut marketing costs. The European agency is likely to be called the Online Travel Portal, according to the report. Most of the airlines in question have signed a letter of intent outlining their plans.
