Motorola considers options for Iridium's satellites

NEWS Motorola is considering how it will dispose of Iridium's satellites, following the company's announcement last week that it has failed to find a buyer for the bankrupt service. Iridium halted its worldwide satellite phone service on Friday after missing a court deadline to secure funding. Motorola, Iridium's largest backer, said it will maintain the 66 low-earth satellites while it finalises a plan to "de-orbit" them. It said it will attempt to continue a limited service for subscribers who are unable to find alternative methods of communications.
