First Choice pumps £10m into interactive TV

NEWS UK travel agent First Choice has invested £10m in an ecommerce strategy based on interactive TV. The iSee TV service will provide a direct link between the consumer and a travel consultant offering one-to-one advice, display maps of destinations and book tickets via a living-room TV. The system will go live over cable company, Telewest's, network later this year in partnership with retail technology company, Media Logic. First Choice also plans to develop interactive touch-screens, which store up to 12 video clips, for promotion in travel agents. But the company hasn't given up on traditional e-media: this week saw it launch a series of online travel agents: air2000.com, globesavers.com, sunsail.com and travelchoice.com.
