NEWS WAP technology company Across Wireless has been bought by Finnish telco Sonera for E900m (£535m). Under the deal Sonera subsidiary Sonera Smartrust will take over the company. Sonera plans to float Smartrust as an independent company within the year, and the deal is conditional on Ericsson investing in the IPO. Currently Ericsson owns 25 per cent of the privately-held Across Wireless. The combined company said it will provide a complete range of products for secure mobile ecommerce. Sweden-based Across Wireless at present employs 115 people and manufactures wireless Internet platforms, including a SIM-based WAP browser. Smartrust said it will retain all Across Wireless management and employees.
