NEWS Chip-maker Transmeta is making inroads into the traditional Wintel market hot on the heels of its success with AOL and Gateway, according to US reports. IBM is expected to demonstrate subnotebooks running on the Transmeta Crusoe chip at PC Expo, later this month. This follows AOL and Gateway's decision to use the chip for a new range of Internet appliances on the Linux platform. Transmeta's Crusoe chip boasts low power consumption and chip morphing capabilities. Another traditional Wintel supplier, PC-maker Compaq, has also pledged its support to the chip company with an $88m investment in April.
