C&W and Nokia establish wireless net platform

NEWS Cable & Wireless (C&W) and Nokia have joined forces to develop the first global wireless internet platform. "This partnership will enable the delivery of the world's first truly global wireless platform that will enable us to supply a suite of applications to corporate customers," said Graham Wallace, CEO at C&W. He added: "Dot-coms, ISPs and mobile operators will now have a quick route to market, without the need to build their own networks." During the call, Sari Baldauf, president at Nokia, said the move would favour the mobile user. "The internet is already mobile. There will be one million users by the end of 2002 and more mobile users than PC users by the end of 2003." The two companies are in talks with partners and plan to have products and revenues by the end of this year. No financial details have been released.
