Orange withdraws from broadband auction

Orange has confirmed it is to withdraw from the delayed UK broadband fixed wireless auction, which was originally scheduled to begin today.

NEWS A spokesperson for the mobile operator told silicon.com: "Orange can confirm it has withdrawn from the broadband fixed wireless auction. Orange is currently reviewing a number of access technologies to deliver broadband services, which remain core to the Orange vision. At this stage, it is too early to say which type of technology we will ultimately use." A spokesman for the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said the rules allow for any company to withdraw without reason. He said: "We believe we can still deliver a competitive auction with 11 companies." He added that a new date is yet to be set for the start of the auction.
