UK Bluetooth specialist brings funding total to $50m

Cambridge Silicon Radio (CSR) has completed its third round of funding with an investment by Sony Corporation.

NEWS CSR, a designer and manufacturer of single-chip devices for use in Bluetooth applications, has now received over $50m in funding. CSR manufactures a semiconductor which acts as a processor and a radio transmitter on one chip John Hodgson, CEO of CSR, said in a statement: "The funds raised will help to further secure our leading market position and take full advantage of the opportunities in the single-chip radio market and the anticipated explosion in Bluetooth." The amount invested by the capital venture arm of Sony corporation was undisclosed. CSR has already secured funding from 3i, ALPS, Amadeus, ARM, Capital Research, Compaq, Gilde, Intel Capital, Mustang Ventures, Philips, Razorfish, Virata and Wavecom.
