Vodafone and One2One deny 3G crisis talks

Vodafone and One2One are refusing to disclose whether they have held secret meetings with the government to discuss ways of reducing the massive financial burden of 3G licences.

NEWS According to the Independent on Sunday, the Deutsche Telekom owned One2One and Vodafone held separate meetings stating their concerns about recouping 3G costs and demanded amendments to the agreement. However, today both companies refused to comment. In the UK, the government sold five licences last year for a total of £22.5 bn. The huge sums concerned, coupled with the strict planning requirements on network construction, have led analysts to predict that some telcos may default on their loans within two to four years time. The Independent on Sunday said the companies requested an extension to the 20-year licences and a relaxation on network agreements.
