CeBIT update: Siemens aims for third place in mobile market

Siemens is to present a range of GPRS mobile phone prototypes at CeBIT as it pushes to consolidate its market position as a leading supplier of mobile internet access.

NEWS Siemens increased its market share in the mobile communications sector to 17 per cent in Western Europe for the third quarter of 2000, reaching second place behind Nokia with 31 per cent. The company has stated its aim of becoming the third largest global player in the field. In financial 2000, Siemens achieved revenues of E9bn (£5.65bn) in the mobile sector.
