Motorola saves 150 jobs

Shame about the rest...

NEWS Motorola has confirmed it is cutting 550 jobs from its Swindon factory but this is significantly less than predicted. In February Motorola announced it would cut 700 jobs but has reduced this to 550 following agreements with staff. A Motorola spokesman said: "These losses came mostly through voluntary redundancy and early retirement." He added that Motorola is not predicting any further cuts in the UK this year. The company has so far seen the total UK workforce reduced from 10,000 to 7,000 due to cost savings measures, attempting to offset the $200m which has been wiped off the Chicago-based company's books in the first three months of the year. He also assured the future safety of the Swindon factory, which will make base stations for 3G mobile phone networks. For related news, see
