Mobile giants offer GPRS roaming

Roaming, roaming, roaming get those Finns roaming...

NEWS Sonera, the Finnish incumbent telco, and its Norwegian counterpart Telenor have announced a deal to offer GPRS roaming. The service will take place over the GPRS Roaming Exchange (GRX) network, which is a centralised IP routing network for interconnecting GPRS networks. The companies' GRX networks will be interconnected via a common peering point in Amsterdam. The companies say the inter-GRX roaming deal is first of its kind and it sees GPRS customers the same roaming and mobile internet access as GSM customers. Sonera and Telenor launched their GPRS networks in December 2000 and January 2001 respectively.
