NEWS Qualcomm has abandoned plans to spin off its processor business and undergone a management reshuffle. In addition, the company's president and COO Richard Sulprizio has resigned and been replaced by CFO Anthony Thornley. The mobile telecoms technology company is undergoing a restructuring that will see it split into two divisions: a mobile and wireless group and a CDMA (code division multiple access) group. Qualcomm originally announced plans to spin off its chip arm a year ago to focus on licensing its CDMA technology for next generation mobile phones, the Financial Times reports. According to CEO Qualcomm Irwin Jacobs, one of the main reasons for spinning off the business was to avoid possible litigation over its attempt to develop mobile chips supporting a number of wireless technologies. However, the threat of litigation has reduced with the signing of around 40 technology agreements.
