NEWS Hutchison 3G has signed up middleware expert Tibco to provide the mobile middleware for the roll-out of its network in the UK. The deal includes an option to be expanded to the other territories in which Hutchison holds licences - Australia, Austria, Italy and Sweden. Former Reuters subsidiary Tibco will provide technology to link the various 3G applications together. Hutchison 3G said it chose Tibco because of its ability to handle complex layers of applications and networks. The companies have not released the financial terms of the deal. In a statement, Tibco's president of EMEA region Erik Hansen described the deal as a "landmark" for the 3G industry. Hutchison 3G plans to have its network up and running by the third quarter of 2002.
