NEWS Service providers in India have decided to focus on 2.5G technology, following a lack of 3G directives from the Indian government. A plan for 3G deployment had originally been promised by May, but no announcement is now expected this year. Therefore the Cellular Operators' Association has recommended that India concentrates on 2.5G, while waiting to see how 3G develops in Europe and Japan. Motorola is ready to sell 3G infrastructure equipment in India as soon as demand picks up, but some analysts are saying India should skip 3G altogether and wait for more advanced technologies to appear.
