NEWS Intel and BT have jointly developed email type software which allows message and file swapping between wireless devices over LAN and GPRS.
The software is part of Intel's Personal Internet Client Architecture (PCA), which it claims will create an open environment for wireless internet devices by separating the commuting side of an application from the communication side, enabling it to work across any standard.
The mobile application is similar to Microsoft's NetMeeting package and is intended to be able to work on the back of other technology.
In a conference in Rome Logica claimed the software carried out the first live Multimedia Messaging (MMS) demonstration over a GPRS network.
While its predecessor Short Message Service (SMS) currently sends text only, MMS will be capable of sending animated graphics, pictures, streaming video and audio.
