How much is a Marconi share worth?

Between nothing and 10p...

NEWS Troubled telecoms equipment maker Marconi was hit by more miserable news yesterday. Per Lindberg, analyst at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, said in a research note that Marconi shares are now effectively worthless. Lindberg told the Daily Telegraph: "Shareholders should give up all residual hope that Marconi will turn around. Its core businesses are now in disarray and the company's best hope is to link up with strategic partners who can buy it piece by piece." Lindberg added that if he owned bonds in the company, he would force an auction of its saleable assets. Marconi's European bonds were trading at just 35 per cent of face value yesterday. Marconi did manage to sell its stake in French media concern Lagardere for £43m. The money will go towards cutting Marconi's £4.4bn debt mountain. The next Judgement Day for Marconi is October 12 when it will release a trading statement on sales for the three months to September.
