NEWS Orange has boosted its subscriber figures by 47 per cent in the last quarter. The company said it has welcomed 320,000 customers in the three months to the end of September, bringing its UK user base to 12.2 million. Orange claims that 68 per cent of its customers are now contract subscribers as opposed to those on pay as you go tarrifs, up from 27 per cent in the second quarter. The company attributes the switch to a price hike in pay-as you -talk packages. Rival Vodafone only managed to increase its subscriber base by 251,000. In July Orange's subscriber figures overtook Vodafone's when the latter revised its numbers to discount inactive subscriptions. It also picked up the 'best network' accolade at a recent awards ceremony.
