Dolphin swims into shark-infested 3G waters

NEWS Dolphin Telecom, currently in administration, could be rescued by US component maker Qualcomm. Dolphin offered business services on its Tetra network and Qualcomm believes it can use CDMA technology to offer '3G-on-the-cheap' voice and data services. Deloitte and Touche were appointed administrators on 1 August. Qualcomm is backing the consortium, called Inquam. It plans to take over Dolphin before rolling out the network targeted at business users, according to the Financial Times. The paper claims this would pose a threat to companies who paid the massive prices of 3G licences. Nobody from the company was available to comment at time of publishing.
