NEWS Motorola, which has had to slash almost 40,000 jobs so far this year, is remaining positive about its operations in China. The equipment maker said it will invest $3bn in the country over the next five years with a focus on R&D. The move is fuelled by the fast-growing and large market for mobile devices in China. The country has been at the forefront of pager use for some time, and now there is a migration to PDAs, mobile phones and integrated devices. The company already has about 13,000 employees in China, around 1,000 of whom work in R&D.
