US spectrum ownership - restrictions revised

NEWS The main telecoms watchdog in the US has cleared the way for mergers in the US cellular market by promising to lift limits on the amount of wireless spectrum any one operator can own. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted 3-1 in favour of the revision, which is likely to benefit crowded markets where available spectrum is scarce. Dissenters, including the only commissioner to vote against the change, argue downward price pressure could ease in the future if competitors end up marrying.
