3G phones get a Linux boost

Penguin power...

NEWS Personalised screens on mobile phones will save 3G from meeting the same fate as WAP, or that's what a new user interface engine from 3G LAB is betting on. 3G LAB claims WAP lost out because of the dull and inaccessible user interface. The company is putting a Linux engine on top of the operating system of individual 2.5G and 3G phones that it claims will make the user experience more intuitive and engaging. The product, named Trigenix, is designed for simple porting to a number of wireless devices including eCos, Palm, Pocket PC, the Symbian OS and any real-time operating system (RTOS) from other vendors. The screens won't be available for at least another 18 months.
