NEWS Bill Gates has launched the Microsoft Xbox games console in New York. The launch was staged in Toys R Us at Times Square and gamers queued up outside for the opportunity to buy one of the consoles, set to be one of this Christmas's must-have items. Microsoft will make and sell 1.5 million Xboxes by the end of the year, although Gates said he expects supply to fall some way short of demand. However, he is taking no chances. Microsoft is investing $500m in advertising and promoting the Xbox which will retail for $299. Rival games console manufacturer Nintendo is set to launch its latest offering, the GameCube, on Sunday.
