NEWS Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer claims the much-lauded games console Xbox will eventually become a wired entertainment hub. Ballmer said the software giant has originally intended to release the Xbox as a device that offered interactive TV and PC-like functions as well as games but rethought its strategy after the concept met with strong opposition from developers. However, he hinted that the company might expand on the device's "broader concept" in the future but declined to provide details, US wires report. Since the launch of its revamped iBook laptop Apple has also been aggressively marketing the idea of a computer as a digital hub.
