NEWS Ericsson has beaten rivals Nokia and Siemens to gain the lion's share of a contract with US telco Cingular Wireless. Ericsson will not reveal the value of its part of the contract, estimated to be worth a total of $3bn. Nokia, however has come forward to say it will rake in $1bn, with Siemens gaining the smallest share. The contract is for the provision of GSM equipment for a large slab of Cingular's nationwide network. Cingular is now the third US mobile operator to back GSM-based technology, after Deutsche Telekom-owned VoiceStream and AT&T Wireless.
