Motorola aims to be big in Japan

3G a go-go...

NEWS Motorola is moving back into the Japanese market with its handset offerings, a senior executive at the company said. John Thode, VP and general products manager of 3G products at the company, said the company has re-entered the market in an attempt seize part of the CDMA - the 3G flavour favoured in Japan - market. The FT reports Motorola is working closely with NTT DoCoMo and other operators involved in Japan in a bid to introduce new products. Motorola withdrew from the Japanese market in 1995 - apart from selling through Japanese operator KDDI - after finding the country's telecommunications standards too specialised to make money.
